Athens, Ga – The Georgia Bulldogs Men’s Basketball team opened its 2026 preseason with a blowout 94-61 win over the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday. The game started with a fast pace marked by turnovers and fouls for the Panthers, and the Bulldogs never looked back.

The Panthers’ bright spot was senior guard Jacob Meyer, who finished with 20 points and only 2 turnovers. He was the highest scorer of the night on both teams.

Georgia started the game on a run, taking an early 18-6 lead and forcing GSU to an early timeout and a reevaluation of their offense. Even with adjustments and a small run by GSU senior Meyer, Georgia stopped it with a run of their own.

The first half ends with a half-court heave by Georgia senior Blue Cain at the buzzer, pushing the score to 48–24 for a UGA lead. He finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

The second half started with more energy, but the result was the same: Georgia came off aggressively. As more of their three-point attempts fell, they pulled away from any attempt GSU made to tighten the score.

Georgia came out with a pesky defense that led to many missed shots and forced turnovers, with both teams being in the double digits by halftime. Georgia got a lot of production from its starters, but its lead scorer was senior transfer Freddie Dilione V with 14 points.

Georgia led in shooting with almost 50% from the field, 76.2% from the stripe, and 37% from beyond the arc. Despite missed open looks and a stagnant offense, Georgia cruised to a win, and it will be back in Stegeman next Friday against Charlotte.
