Although Georgia’s battle with Georgia Tech happened on a Friday, it truly felt like a Saturday in Athens.

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 44-42 in an epic comeback that will be discussed for years.

After the first quarter, the Bulldogs were down 3-0.

Georgia Tech RB Jamal Haynes (13 ATT, 91 YDS) rushed for 67 yards on four attempts averaging 16.8 yards per attempt.

During the second quarter, Georgia Tech QB Haynes King (303 YDS, 2 TD) proved to be too much for Georgia’s defensive front as he ran a two-yard QB keeper play into the endzone to bring the score to 10-0. Just a few minutes later, King completed a four-yard touchdown pass to Haynes, leaving the score 17-0 at halftime.

Georgia came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half.

Spearheaded by Carson Beck (297 YDS, 5 TD), Georgia receiver Arian Smith (14 YDS) made a big play rushing for 30 yards. That play would set up Beck’s touchdown pass to Oscar Delp (15 YDS, 1 TD) bringing the score 17-6.

Thanks to Georgia running back/receiver Cash Jones (53 YDS, 1 TD), and receivers Dominic Lovett (47 YDS, 2 TD) and London Humphreys (21 YDS, 1 TD), four of the six total drives Georgia executed in the second half ended in a touchdown that would set up for the emotional win at the end of the game.

It was a back-and-forth bar fight.

Shortly after King’s 1-yard TD, Beck completed a 25-yard TD pass to Jones tying the game at 40 points apiece during the second overtime.

During the fifth overtime, Beck connected on a two-point conversion pass to Dillon Bell, but King answered with his pass to Malik Rutherford bringing both scores to 42.

After multiple failed two-point conversion attempts, Georgia running back Nate Frazier ran a successful two-point conversion in the eighth and final overtime that led to Georgia’s dramatic win.

Georgia outscored Tech 44-25 in the second half plus the eight overtimes the game went to.

The Bulldogs have already punched their ticket to Atlanta for the SEC Championship next Saturday, Dec. 7. They await the winner of No. 3 Texas and No. 20 Texas A&M, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC and streaming on ESPN+.
