With clear skies and a summer breeze, Wallows had the ideal ambiance in Chastain park this Monday to promote their newly released album, Model. The opening song “Do Not Wait” was performed beneath the veil of a white curtain, with only the shadows of Dylan Minnette, Braedon Lemasters and Cole Preston peaking through. Hearing Dylan sing “Do not wait, do not wait, do not wait,” paired with the giddy anticipation from the crowd made the curtain drop all the more electric.

From there, the band exploded into playing the opening track to Model, “Your Apartment”. It seemed as though everyone in the amphitheater was bopping along to the track and singing their hearts out. Cole even cracked a joke later in the set saying, “Who needs red bull when you have ATLANTA!”

It didn’t take long for Wallows to realize that their Atlanta audience was truly something special. Each band member made a comment to admire the fact they could see every face in the crowd. My favorite part of the show was one that I could have never expected, it was simply stepping back and hearing the chorus of Wallows fans angelically sing the closing lyrics of “These Days”. I would argue that Dylan was also feeling the magic in that moment when afterwards he said, “Oh Atlanta, it’s you,” leading into the next song, “You (Show Me Where My Days Went)”. I had the pleasure of debuting “You” on the 90.5 WUOG airwaves a few weeks ago during summer break radio.
The boys made their way over to their second stage via the rows of seats filled with screaming fans for what felt like an intimate jam session with three of your new friends. There they even gave the crowd a chance to vote on the next song, “Only friend” or “1980’s Horror Film” to which the overwhelming majority cheered for the latter.
After three songs on the second stage, Wallows closed their set with one of the best songs I have ever heard live, “Remember When”, which carried us into the encore featuring none other than “Are You Bored Yet?” with the audience taking care of Clairo’s lines in her absence. Needless to say, I left the show soaring on an indie rock high and a new crush on Dylan Minnette.
