WUOG had quite an eventful September as we worked hard to get the ball rolling. The first event we had was our interest meeting on the fourth, in which over 100 people showed up! We held a lot of retention as our staffs, such as operations and local staff particularly swelled up, along with a bunch of newcomers hungry to be heard in the booth, proving that radio still is not dead!
The second large event we had was Skate Night, which was one day after the interest meeting. The first 85 students got free entry, and we quickly went over that. We skated around and danced, and fell, to some of our favorite groovy tunes.
Every Tuesday we have Live In The Lobby’s (LITL), where a local band comes to the lobby and plays an hour long set or less for free! Everyone is invited, whether student or non-student. Our first LITL was Crimson Fever during UGA’s engagement fair, which pulled in the hoards of students looking for a fun club! After that was King Lord, which was very avant-garde with a DJ bashing metal together and brandishing foam swords.
On September 10th, we had quite a big one! Lunar Vacation, an indie-pop band from Decatur, returned to do their second LITL to drum up support for their brand new album, “Everything Matters, Everything’s Fire” and their show at the 40 Watt Club. The Lobby was quite literally overflowing with people, as roughly 175 people showed up! Then we followed up their performance with an on-air interview of the band.
After that we had Your Ex’s Pets which was indie-rock with folk elements and vocal harmonies. Then that we had Bone Bag which had dueling drums and, in true punk fashion, their set barely lasted 20 minutes.
In addition to all these fun events, our airwaves have been blasting since our fall program guide was swiftly finished. Below are all the shows we have, along with their time slots. We have everything from early 1900s music on our show “Tin Pan Alley,” to 1970s yacht rock on “On The Rocks,” to our PC music/hyperpop show “PC Explosion” and more! Ultimately, WUOG is still going strong and our message is still proudly outpouring from the top of Brumby to be heard. The bands are still showing up to our lobby, and we are still pulling in passionate fans of music, no matter the genre!

– Oct 11th CD Sale: every CD is 1 dollar, and all the sales go to charity. This helps us with all the clutter the archives can build up, and nothing of importance will be sold.
– Birthoween Oct 17th: Celebrating our 52th birthday at the Tate Grand Hall with Elf Power performing!
