Once you’ve worked at the station for at least one full semester, you can then apply for DJ training. After your department head approves the transfer, you begin the semester long proccess. Weekly meetings verse you in the legal, technical, and stylistic requirements for being a DJ. You also must sit-in with experienced DJs, and sucessfully complete an FCC policies exam.
After completing the requirements for training, you are eligible for your own DJ shift. Don’t be surprised if your first shift at the station ends up being a late night/early morning one. Shifts are assigned each semester and preference depends on senority. There are currently over 200 volunteers employeed at 90.5FM, and a little less than half of those volunteers have been DJ-trained.
Also note that while you are DJ training you must still report to your original staff and be active with that staff, as well as one semester after training. Otherwise you will not be allowed to apply for a DJ shift.
If you’re interested in DJ training, or just joining our staff, check out our Training section. Hope to see you soon!
