My Way or the Highway

Can you feel the tension in the air? Can you sense the irritation and disregard coming? The endless conversations and the 8 million different ways to fix the BCS? Yup, it’s bowl season. Now that teams are starting to wrap up conference title spots (or not in the minor-league conferences) it’s time for a little projecting. (more…)

The Return of Jesus

After last weeks picks debacle, I seriously considered taking a week off. My effort level as about as high as Georgia’s in Jacksonville — though certainly not the fans who racked up an impressive 252 MIP’s in a record setting boozification of the city. However, I decided to fight through, reminding myself that I’m at least over .500, at 24-19 against the spread, which is still better than AJC’s Jeff Schultz. Speaking of which, we’ve entered this blog in a contest to be located on Schultz’s blogroll. To aid this cause, we’re asking for donations to be made here. I’m kidding. Kind of. (more…)

It’s finally here. The stimulus package St. Simon’s has been waiting for. The Cocktail Party. Georgia Florida. (more…)

Picks of the week, no asterisks

Since UGA has a bye week this week, I seriously considered taking a bye as well. This feeling was exacerbated by the 2-4 run last week. Looking back, I wrote out solid reasons for the opposite of almost every pick. If I’d had the extra day to write it, I’m sure my genius would have prevailed. Yeah, that’s what I’ll blame it on. Media Madness

When I first heard about the planning stages for an event called “Media Madness” I grew very excited: I finally had the chance to steal Matt Bucklin’s spot on the team. But once I heard that Coach Fox “borrowed” the idea from Coach Tom Izzo at Michigan State, I reconsidered taking Buck’s place. There is an obvious trend going on here. First, Tom Izzo is Bucklin’s uncle. Second, we use Michigan State’s tactics with the media. Third, we follow Michigan State’s lead to the final four. Boom. (Note: Pictures coming soon) (more…)

Wake me up, when October ends

Before we get into this weeks post, you may ask two things. 1. Didn’t you post already? Enough’s enough! and 2. What happened to this week’s Heatin’ Up? Well, after a week of several exams and a paper due next week, I had to cancel on the guest this week (can you believe it? what a reversal of fortunes!). However, over the next couple of weeks, I have some interesting things planned. Also, there’s no Football Jesus pick this week because, well, it’s not Friday yet. More on that later. (more…)

It’s time to light a fire

Oct 12 2009 12:46 am

I woke up on Saturday morning in typical fashion, around 10 with a slight headache (reasons undisclosed) and an overwhelming need for water. So far, so good. I plopped on my couch in preparation for the early start and College Gameday. The morning suddenly took a turn for the worse. Almost immediatley, the entire Gameday crew picked Georgia to win easily. Great. That’s worse than the Sports Illustrated curse. I then call my buddy Zach at kick off. A native Tennessean, he fired at me for waking him by singing “Rocky Top”. At that moment, I knew we were in trouble.

The game ended with me on the couch, now alone, fuming. After resisting the urge to punch holes in my wall, I went for a run to blow off some steam. There was an offer to play soccer, but I had to deny. Socialization was simply not possible. Plus, I needed to think. Was I really about to hammer out a post about firing Coach Richt? Sure, it was early: we’d just lost and I was furious. 45-19? Are you kidding? But something had to be done. Lets review. (more…)

Celebrate good times

First, an apology. My effort last week was dismal at best. I managed to stay level at 3-3 bringing the season total to 13-7. Not too shabby. But to increase my odds, we’ll be bringing back Football Jesus next week for an SEC pick of the week that will hopefully become a regular feature. (more…)

When did we get adopted by the athletic department? I surely wasn’t aware of any such changes. (Before going on, let me apologize for the formatting errors that follow. I’m really bad at this whole “internet” thing.) (more…)

SEC Defenses! Yeah…

When did the SEC become an offensive conference? I’m confused. I feel like the Big 12. Only, of course, better. Without Graham Harrell, Sam Bradford and an average Colt McCoy I  haven’t heard a lot out of the that particular region. And thank God. I was tired of seeing that mustache on TV. The Big East aside, they may be the weakest conference right now. Wait, the Big 10 is still around? Never mind. (more…)
