2011 NCAA Tournament: Live Blog from Charlotte, NC: Day 2

CHARLOTTE, NC — The second day of the 2011 tournament is underway, and I will be bringing you live updates and analysis from Charlotte, NC at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The games that will take place here in Charlotte are as followed.

(8) Michigan 75, (9) Tennessee 45 — Final
(1) Duke 87, (16) Hampton 45 — Final
(2) North Carolina 102, (15) Long Island 87 — Final
(7) Washington 68, (10) Georgia 65 — Final

11:28: Final in Tulsa, OK as Illinois beats UNLV 73-62. The Illini will face No. 1 seed Kansas Sunday afternoon. In Chicago, VCU still holds a 49-34 lead over Georgetown.

10:56: Georgia and Washington are tied at halftime, you can follow the live blog here.

VCU leads Georgetown 35-24 at the half in Chicago, IL. Syracuse has a 25-14 lead over Indiana State halfway through the first half. Illinois leads UNLV 61-40 midway through the second half.

10:36: Illinois has a 57-32 lead over UNLV early on in the second half. VCU has a 30-23 lead over Georgetown with a couple minutes left in the first half. Syracuse has a 10-6 lead over Indiana State early on in the first half.

Georgia leads Washington 20-16 with 7:39 left in the first half, you can follow the live blog here.

10:08: 11-seed Marquette has defeated 6-seed Xavier 66-55. They will advance and play the winner of Syracuse and Indiana State.

Illinois and UNLV have gone to the half, and the Illini lead 46-24. The winner will play Kansas Sunday in Tulsa, OK.

9:40: Georgia and Washington will tip off at 10:08 EST, game nationally televised on CBS. Click here for our Live Blog of the game.

9:36: The first game of the night session has gone final as North Carolina defeats Long Island 102-87. 189 points were scored in this contest

The Tar Heels will face the winner of Georgia and Washington Sunday in Charlotte.

In another final, Purdue has defeated St. Peters 65-43. Purdue will face the winner of Georgetown and VCU Sunday in Chicago, IL.

In other action, Marquette has a 54-43 lead over Xavier with 7:46 left.

Illinois and UNLV just tipped off and the Illini have a 18-12 lead early in the first half.

9:08: Long Island cannot get past this 10-12 point deficit in the second half. North Carolina has been able to get the ball down low to John Henson, Harrison Barns, and Tyler Zeller, and the Blackbirds don’t have an answer.

North Carolina leads 84-70 with 7:29 left in the second half. Purdue leads St. Peter’s 61-36 with a couple minutes left in the second half. Marquette leads Xavier 38-25 early in the second half.

8:38: After a 20-minute halftime, play is resumed here in Charlotte, and Carolina increases its lead to 60-42 in the first couple minutes of the half. Long Island is forced to call a timeout.

In other action, Purdue leads St. Peter’s 40-17 with 16:31 left in the second half. Marquette holds a 25-17 lead over Xavier with a couple minutes left in the first half. In a game that’s about to go final, Kansas has a 70-48 lead over Boston University.

8:15: We have gone to the half here in Charlotte, with North Carolina leading Long Island 53-42 in the highest scoring first half of the tournament.

In other action, Purdue leads St. Peter’s 33-17 at the half. Kansas holds a 43-32 over Boston early in the second half. In a game that’s early in the first half, 11-seed Marquette leads 6-seed Xavier 13-7.

7:37: Live here in Charlotte, North Carolina leads Long Island 18-9 early in the first half.

In other action, Kansas and Boston have gone to the half, with the Jayhawks holding a 33-29 edge.

In Chicago, IL 3-seed Purdue holds an early 12-4 lead over St. Peter’s.

In Cleveland, OH, 6-seed Xavier and 11-seed Marquette are about to tip off.

6:54: The overall number one seed in the tournament Ohio State has put the finishing touches on UT-San Antonio and beat them 75-46.

In a game that just started, 16-seed Boston University has a 10-8 lead over 1-seed Kansas, but it is still very early.

North Carolina and Long Island will tip off at 7:15, a game that is nationally televised on CBS.

6:21: Florida State has defeated Texas A&M 57-50 and will advance to face Notre Dame Sunday in Chicago. In his first game back since his broken leg, Chris Singleton scored 4 points, while commiting 4 personal fouls.

The only other game in progress is the game in Cleveland where the Buckeyes of Ohio State hold a 46-26 edge over UT-San Antonio early in the second half.

5:17: A couple finals, first the contest here in Charlotte. Duke has advanced to the second round after routing Hampton 87-45. The Blue Devils will face Michigan here in Charlotte Sunday.

In the other game, 5-seed Arizona has survived an upset scare against 12-seed Memphis, as the Wildcats defeated the Tigers 77-75. They will advance to play Texas Sunday in Tulsa, OK.

Florida State and Texas A&M have gone to the half with the Aggies leading 26-23. Duke is putting the finishing touches on Hampton, and lead 81 in the final minutes of that contest.

Ohio State and UT-San Antonio have just tipped off in Cleveland. The winner will face George Mason Sunday.

4:36: This years George Mason, might be George Mason. The Patriots have defeated Villanova 61-57 and will advance to play the winner of Ohio State and UT-San Antonio. An 8-0 run in the final minutes propeled George Mason to victory, and they will most likely face Ohio State Sunday, the number one overall seed in the tournament.

In other games, (12) Memphis leads (5) Arizona by five points, 63-58, with nine minutes remaining in the second half. Duke has taken control of its game against Hampton and lead 55-25 a couple minutes into the second half. (10) Florida State has started off strong against (7) Texas A&M and lead 10-3 early in the first half.

4:08: Duke and Hampton have gone to the half, and the Blue Devils have a 39-22 lead. The game is a typical 1-16 blowout, and I expect the Blue Devils to coast to an easy victory to set up a game with Michigan Sunday in Charlotte, NC.

3:58: The third game of the day has gone final as Notre Dame defeats Akron 69-56. The Fighting Irish will play the winner of Texas A&M and Florida State.

3:31: Duke and Hampton have just tipped off, and the Blue Devils have jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead early in the first half. Villanova leads George Mason 35-29 at the half, and Notre Dame leads Akron 59-47 with a couple minutes left in that ball game.

2:47: Final in Charlotte, NC. Michigan has beaten Tennessee 75-45. An embarrasing loss for Tennessee, but is it Bruce Pearl’s final game as the Volunteers head caoch. The press conference is going to be very interesting.

2:35: This is not a typo. Michigan is up 30 points on Tennessee, 70-40, with 3:26 left in the game. Notre Dame up 34-30 at the half against Akron.

2:23: The first game has gone final with (4) Texas defeating (13) Oakland 85-81. The Longhorns will face the winner of (5) Arizona and (12) Memphis Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

George Mason and Villanova have just begun. Michigan is up on Tennessee 59-40 with 10 minutes left in the game. Notre Dame leads Akron 34-30 with 1:35 left in the first half.

2:02: Michigan has come out strong after halftime, and following a 7-2 run, they lead Tennessee 40-31. Bruce Pearl was forced to call a quick timeout two minutes into the second half.

Other scores: Texas is up 13 on Oakland with five minutes left in that ball game. Notre Dame has jumped off to a quick 21-10 lead over Akron early on in the first half.

(8) George Mason and (9) Villanova are about to begin their contest in Cleveland, OH. The game will start at 2:10 EST.

1:40: Interesting stats from the first half box score of Tennessee and Michigan.

-Tobias Harris: 7-7 FG’s, 6-6 FT, 19 points
-Only five players have scored for Tennessee, with no-one other than Harris having more than 4 points.
-Tennessee is 10-12 from the free throw line, Michigan is 0-1.
-Michigan is shooting 41.7% from the field, Tennessee is shooting 45.0%
-16 of Michigan’s 33 points have come from the bench, including the leading scorer Matt Vogrich (9 points). Tennessee has two points from the bench.
-Michigan has scored 22 points in the paint, Tennessee has scored 14.
-Largest lead for both teams: Tennessee (6 points), Michigan (4 points)

1:34: Michigan and Tennessee are heading to the half with the Wolverines leading 33-29. Matt Vogrich leads Michigan with 9 points, and Tobias Harris leads Tennessee with 19 points.

Harris is perfect from the field (7-7), and the free throw line (6-6).

(2) Notre Dame and (15) Akron are about to begin play in Chicago, Illinios. The game will tip off at 1:40 EST.

(4) Texas and (14) Oakland have begun the second half in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Longhorns still have a 55-44 lead with 14:03 left in the ball game.

1:04: Texas and Oakland have gone to the half, with the Longhorns leading 46-38. Here in Charlotte, the Volunteers have jumped to a quick 13-9 lead. Tobias Harris leads Tennessee with 8 points.

12:43: Michigan and Tennessee are underway here in Charlotte. Texas is up early on Oakland 29-19 with eight minutes left in the first half.

12:20: Coming to you live from Charlotte, NC bringing you analysis and updates of today’s action. The first game has tipped off, with (4) Texas playing (13) Oakland. Action in Charlotte will begin shortly, with (8) Michigan facing (9) Tennessee.
