This is Matt Ryan blogging live from Sanford Stadium. Today at noon the Georgia Bulldogs take on the 12th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. The Bulldogs are coming off a tough loss at Columbia last week to the Gamecocks and look to rebound today against Arkansas. Arkansas is led by quarterback Ryan Mallet who is arguably the best quarterback in the country and the potential #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. This is Arkansas’s first conference game of the year. Yesterday the NCAA ruled that A.J. Green will be ineligible for his full four game suspension, which is not good news for the Dawgs. The Dawgs will need a different play maker to step up today. Georgia won last year’s game in Fayetteville 52-41 and this year’s game is sure to feature some offensive firepower again. Kickoff is 16 minutes away!

Final Score: Arkansas 31, Georgia 24

The story of this game was Ryan Mallet. His 380 passing yards and three touchdowns gave him his first SEC road win as Arkansas’s quarterback. The Razorbacks 3 play 73 yard drive with 47 seconds left in the game showcased their offensive firepower and Mallet’s ability to lead his offense on a game winning drive with seconds remaining. While the passing offense for Arkansas was spectacular they will need to improve their running game to contend for an SEC West championship when Alabama comes to Fayetteville next week. The Razorbacks only ran for 59 yards in the first half.

The Bulldogs ran for a 139 yards and 2 touchdowns. Washaun Ealey became a more effective runner as the game went on and the team had only 1 fumble in this game. Carlton Thomas had a decent game and may see more playing time future games this year. The Dawgs abandoned the passing game in the first half, with Murray only getting 6 pass attempts.  He threw 21 passes in the 2nd half which helped Georgia even it up during the 4th quarter. While his completion percentage was under 60%,  Murray made up for it with his long pass completions and poise with down by two touchdowns. The quarterback scrambled for some long runs, but he was also sacked six times during the game by the Razorback defense.

This is Georgia’s third straight home loss to an SEC West opponent. They lost to Alabama in 2008 and LSU in 2009. Next week the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Starkville, Mississippi  to take on the Mississippi State in the Battle of the Bulldogs. That game will start 7:30 pm eastern time.

Half Time

In the first half Ryan Mallet has shown why he could be the top NFL draft choice in April. He has passed for 232 yards and completed 13 of 17 passes. While the Razorbacks passing attack has played great, their rushing offense has been terrible, gaining only 12 yards on 11 rushing attempts. Joe Adams and Greg Childs have provided Mallet with deep threats the entire game. They have combined for 127 receiving yards.

The Georgia Bulldogs have been unable to find a consistent offensive attack like the last game. They have run the ball 22 times, but only gained 68 yards. Murray only passed the ball six times in the 1st half. Murray will need to pass more in the next half for the Dawgs to get some points on the board. Murray has had some big plays on the ground, but needs to pass the ball deeper and avoid the defensive rush. He has been sacked twice so far. While the Dawgs have had no turnovers, penalties are still problems for the team, with seven in the first half compared to four for Arkansas.
