Georgia Vs. Florida Postgame audio/video

Georgia beat Florida 78-76 tonight. Mark Fox said it best when he said that it was  a good thing that the clock stopped. Florida had all the momentum towards the end of the game. Florida outscored Georgia by 13 points in the second half and had a 62.1% field goal percentage in half number two.

Trey Thompkins: 20 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists

Jeremy Price: 13 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Dustin Ware: 10 pts, 1 rebound, 2 assists

Those are your top performers. Below is audio from Coach Mark Fox and video from Ebuka Anyaorah and Vincent Williams. I do apologize for the low audio in the video. I will buy an external microphone one of these days.

Coach Fox has this team playing well. They have grown so much this season. He is an awesome coach. I have a feeling that nobody wants to play UGA in the SEC tournament. Next game: Kentucky. Georgia has proven that they can play with Kentucky. Now time to see if Georgia can beat them!

Play by play from here on out:

Trey Thompkins missed a ten foot jumper. Gator ball with 56.4 left in the game. Stegman crowd urging Georgia to play defense. Gators miss a shot and Georgia gets a rebound. Coach Fox calls a timeout with 39.7 seconds left in the game. Georgia up by two. There is a twelve second difference in game and shot clock.

Florida has the ball and is down by 2 points with 13.3 seconds left. Shot clock is turned off. Dan Werner was left WIDE open for a three and Albert Jackson ran up and blocked it. .1 seconds were left on the clock. Florida inbounded and missed the shot

GEORGIA WINS 78-76 OVER FLORDIA!

Georgia and Stetson are set to get underway here at Foley Field for the first of a three game set between the Hatters and Bulldogs. I’m Kirk Carter and I’m only allowed to update once every half-inning. So feel free to read along at home. If you have questions during the game send them along to me at highnoonsports@gmail.com

Tonight’s starting lineups:

Stetson Hatters (3-1)
1. Spencer Theisen – cf
2. Mark Jones – 3b
3. Aaron Crittenden – dh
4. Nick Rickles – c
5. Sean Emory – rf
6. Robert Crews – 2b
7. Jacon DeGrom – ss
8. Ryan Lashley – 1b
9. Jeff Simpson – lf

Starting pitcher: Lindsey Caughel (R) – 6.23 ERA, 6K

Georgia Bulldogs
1. Jonathan Taylor – lf
2. Chase Davidson – dh
3. Peter Verdin – rf
4. Colby May – 3b
5. Zach Cone – cf
6. Christian Glisson – c
7. Kyle Farmer – ss
8. Robert Shipman – 1b
9. Todd Hankins – 2b

Starting pitcher: Justin Grimm (R) – 3.60 ERA, 6K

Hankins continues to start at second base while Levi Hyams serves his suspension. Shipman will get his second start at first base in place of the injured Chase Davidson. Davidson is making his first appearance of the year, although Perno will be protecting him at the DH spot.

Grimm will be making his first start of the year at Foley Field. He looked ok in 5 innings against Baylor. But certainly we hope he lights it up tonight.

Georgia is in black caps with red brims, black jerseys, white lettering, and white pants. Stetson will be wearing green caps, grey jerseys with green lettering and grey pants.

Top of the 1st

Spencer Theisen is first in the box for Stetson and Grimm sits him down swinging to start off inning number 1.
Jones grounds out to short for out number 2. Grimm is clicking tonight.
Grimm fanns Crittenden for strikeout number 2. The scouts are perched in the front rows trying to get a look at Grimm tonight. He’s certainly giving them a show.

Mid 1st: Stetson 0 – Georgia 0
Due up: Taylor, Davidson, Verdin

Bottom 1st

Taylor leads it off for Georgia. Now would be time to mention that it is very very cold out here. Thank goodness the press box windows are closed.

Taylor battles Caughel before taking a 2-2 pitch right back up the middle for a basehit.

Caughel is taking no risks with Taylor on base. He’s thrown over 5 times in this at bat. At this point he’s thrown to his first baseman more than his catcher.

Davidson grounds weekly to Jones and the Hatters turn a 5-4-3 double play. Nice debut for Davidson.

O runs on 1 hit. No errors.
End of 1st: Stetson 0 – Georgia 0
Due up: Rickles, Emory, Crews… 2nd inning after the break. (more…)

Weekend preview

Most intimidating mascot in the NCAA? I think so

Most intimidating mascot in the NCAA? I think so

The Stetson Hatters come to town this weekend to take on the Georgia Bulldogs at Foley Field. Yes, you read that right, the Stetson Hatters… I guess Stetson Offensvie Smelling Colognes was taken.

Stetson hails from the Atlantic Sun Conference and went a disappointing 27-30 last season, en route to a 5th place finish in the A-Sun. However, Stetson returns 19 letterwinners from last season including three Freshman All-America honorees 3rd baseman Mark Jones, catcher Nick Rickles, and 2nd baseman Robert Crews.

The key to Stetson’s offensive success is Aaron Crittenden. The senior from Ft. Myers Florida led the Hatters with a whopping 13 home runs last year good for 8th in the A-Sun. He’s already gotten off to a good start early this season hitting .500 and slugging .750 with a homer and 8 RBI in 4 games for Stetson.

Don’t over look the Hatters. This Stetson team is far from a pushover. They’ve got good young talent and Coach Pete Dunn has led this team to the NCAA tournament on many occasions. Will you see them in Omaha? Doubtful. But Stetson is a ballclub that can make it regional play and shock a few people.

So come on out to Foley Field this weekend and help them root on the Dawgs. I promise, the Stetson fans don’t smell as bad as I’m letting on.

Heatin’ Up (kinda) with Alec Ogletree

It’s not quite another Heatin’ Up, as the sound quality wasn’t too great, but here’s the transcript (which, due to the poor quaility, took ages to transcribe…you’re welcome) of the conversation between myself and Georgia’s top defensive recruit, Alec Ogletree. (more…)

UGA-Alabama Basketball: Live Blog

Feb 20 2010 3:48 pm

Hey everybody. Thanks for making your way over to the WUOG sports blog (although you should probably be outside or something.  It’s a gorgeous day).  I’m Jason Lind, the sports blogger taking the nation by storm.  Today, the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in an SEC matchup.

The Dawgs come in to this one 11-13 overall, with a 3-8 conference record.  Georgia comes off a 69-60 loss in Knox Vegas to the Tennessee Volunteers.   It was yet another game showcasing the Bulldog’s undeniable talent, but lack of experience and ability to finish. We’ll see if they can keep the turnovers to a minimum and maintain a strong presence in the post.

On the other side, the Crimson Tide are 14-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.  They come well rested off a 73-68 comeback win over Arkansas a week ago.  It was a win the Tide desperately needed after four straight losses. (more…)
