GAME UPDATES: FINAL SCORE:   GEORGIA-31  AUBURN-24

Well how about this! After Rambo was carted off the field, it was Coach Richt and his staff jumping up and down waving their arms in a plea for the Dawg fans to get loud. And it worked. Georgia got a sack on Chris Todd to make it 4th and 18. Auburn then committed a false start penalty forcing the Tigers to gain 23 yards to avoid losing to the Georgia Bulldogs for a fourth straight year. The Dawgs break up the play and beat Auburn.

Postgame thoughts are forthcoming.

GEORGIA 31   AUBURN-24  1:16 LEFT IN THE GAME

You can fight like a Dawg, but you can’t take the fight out of Tiger? Wait, I think I got that cliche’ wrong.  I’ll let you figure out what I mean. The Tigers went for a 4th an 1 on the Georgia 25 with 2:30 left in the game and they converted. That play may have kept them in the football game. Auburn is driving and hoping that Georgia’s defense doesn’t come up with a big stop.

The clock is melting away and the fans are getting really loud in Sanford.  A big stop is exactly what I asked for and Bacarri Rambo delivered when he collided hard with an Auburn receiver still in the air. That play probably saved Georgia for the moment. However Rambo is injured. It was a HUGE hit. The medical cart is being driven to the 2 yard line and the entire Georgia team is on one knee. Wait, they just got up. I can only surmise that the Dawgs were praying for they’re injured teammate. Rambo will be carted off. Bulldog nation’s prayers are with you Bacarri! The medical staff is taking their time being sure to not damage anything with Rambo. He has been placed on a stretcher and the entire stadium is chanting “Rambo, Rambo, Rambo.” He has been lifted to the cart and he lifted his arms to signal that he is okay to the faithful Dawg fans.

When play resumes there will be 1:16 left on the clock with Georgia winning 31-24 and the ball on Georgia’s 22 yard line on 3rd down with 11 to gain.

I will update you with a final score at the conclusion of the game. Also, I will pass along any information on Bacarri Rambo as I receive it.

GEORGIA- 31  AUBURN-24  6:52 LEFT IN THE GAME.

The turnover battle goes Georgia’s way again when Reshad Jones picks off Chris Todd. Or should I say, when Chris Todd decided Christmas came early for the Dawgs. I’m not sure if there was an Auburn receiver within 10 yards of Jones on that pick.  Jones returned the ball for 21 yards. Georgia is moving slow and steady towards the endzone on the back of Washaun Ealey. This freshman really has Auburn on their heels. Next play: Caleb King runs for his second touchdown of the night on a 24 yard carry for the points. If allowed, he would have run up to the railroad tracks behind that part of the stadium.

What a rollercoaster type of game!

GEORGIA: 24   AUBURN:24  10:55 LEFT IN THE GAME

Joe Cox threw a 42 yard pass to Tavarres King to open the final quarter of play. Caleb King caught a huge block to give Joe time to get that pass off. Great pitch and catch from The Ginger Avenger (Joe Cox) to The King( sorry for lack of cheesy nickname). I think Caleb King wants the title of “The King” because he just ran to the endzone for an 11 yard touchdown rush. So, I guess it’s okay to have 2 Kings especially if they perform as well as Tavarres and Caleb just did. The touchdown comes with 14:25 left in the 4th quarter.

Auburn gets the ball with a score of DAWGS-24  AUBURN-17. My words don’t do this game justice. It’s a dandy of a game.

There is no giving up in these Auburn Tigers. Demond Washington runs the kickoff back 99 yards for the Tigers. Game is tied again with 14 minutes left in the game. Dawgs and Tigers both with 24 points.

Georgia’s offense sputters somewhat and they are punting to the Tigers. Drew Butler gets a good bounce and the Dawgs down the ball at the 12 yard line for a 46 yard punt. Auburn will go to work there with 10:55 left.

GEORGIA: 17  AUBURN:17  END OF THE 3RD QUARTER

Auburn is pounding the rock to Ben Tate, their stud tailback. Tate ran the tigers on a drive to the Georgia twenty yard line. Georgia got pressure on Chris Todd (thanks for making me look smart with my halftime keys) and forced a bad pass from the Auburn signal caller. Auburn then sent Wes Byrum out on the field to attempt a 31 yard field goal. The ball hit the upright on the kick but still went through the goalposts.  The game is tied 17-17 at the 2:08 mark in the 3rd Quarter.

While the air in Athens become chillier as we sink deeper and deeper into the night, both of these football teams seem to be getting warmer.

I would like to give a special shout-out to Brandon Boykin’s mother. M’am, you did a wonderful job with your son and Brandon is getting the Dawgs good field position on kickoffs.

The Dawgs are driving again as the third quarter comes to a close. The Redcoats are playing Krypton and the Georgia faithful are following suit and going nuts.  Dawgs will start the fourth quarter on 3rd down with 16 yards to gain.

GEORGIA 17   AUBURN 14    4:51 LEFT IN THE 3RD QUARTER

Georgia is driving fast. At this pace, they’ll be hanging out on Baxter Street. Joe Cox threw a pass that was tipped by an Auburn receiver. Orson Charles being the most amazing tight end that he is, caught the tip and ran even further for a 34 yard gain. Washaun Ealey, the product of Twin City, Georgia is simply a beast. To quote the legendary Larry Munson, “My God! A Freshman!!” Ealey just ran for a 20 yard gain and got Sanford Stadium, Athens, Clarke County, and the rest of Bulldog nation energized and rockin’! Initially, the play was called a touchdown. But officials reviewed the play and determined that Ealey stepped out of bounds at the one yard line. The very next play, number 24 got his touchdown and is reminding many Dawg fans of another ” ’shon” that wore the number 24.

Very nice drive for the Dawgs. We’ve got one amazing group of freshman playmakers with Ealey, Orson Charles, and more.  Dawgs lead for the first time in the ballgame.

AUBURN-14   GEORGIA-10    9:24 LEFT IN THE 3RD QUARTER

Georgia drove down to the Auburn 32 on their opening drive of the half. Blair Walsh hit a 51 yard field goal to make the game 14-10, Auburn still leading. The kick would have been good for another 5 or 10 yards. Very nice kick from Blair who has been clutch all season long.

Auburn got the ball and drove to their own 40 yard line. Then, Statesboro, Ga’s own Justin Houston sacked Chris Todd. So it is now Georgia’s football on their own 18 yard line . By scanning around Sanford Stadium, there is not a single person that has left this game. Southeastern Conference fans are smart people. All of the momentum is swinging Georgia’s way.

AUBURN-14  GEORGIA-7    HALFTIME

The first half of the Oldest rivalry in the South has been an old fashioned SEC brawl. The biggest loss for Georgia in the first half was AJ Green who went down with an A.C. sprain in his shoulder and will be out for the remainder of the football game. The Dawgs played quite the pitiful first quarter when they did not gain a single first down and gave the Tigers of Auburn 14 points.

The second quarter was quite the different story. Georgia got the running game going with Washaun Ealey and Caleb King. Joe Cox also hit a few big passes, but also took some bad sacks. All in all, the game has been pretty much even and Georgia has the opportunity to make the scoreboard reflect an even game when they get the ball to start the 3rd quarter.

Keys to the 2nd half for Georgia:

  • Pressure Chris Todd and get him on the move so he doesn’t have as much time to find his receivers.
  • Run Washaun. I can’t simplify that anymore.
  • Cut down on the penalties like they did in the 2nd quarter.

So while Auburn’s band plays and the Redcoats wait they’re turn to entertain this massive crowd, I’m going to hit up the snack table. Ahh the joys of sports broadcasting

AUBURN-14  GEORGIA-7   1:36 left in the 2nd Quarter

Looks like the battle of field position is on in full force. It’s like a slow game of ping pong where the ball is bouncing back and forth between each teams respective 30 yard line. Welcome to the Southeastern conference ladies and gentleman. Georgia receives the kick with 1:36 left in the half

It’s times for America’s favorite game show: Who will cause the first turnover in this football game? If you guessed Brandon Boykin with an interception from Chris Todd, you would be a big winner. Your prize is the fact that the Dawgs are currently winning the turnover battle. That pass had more air under it than Air Force One on it’s way to Asia. The interception came with 5:12 left in the first half.

AUBURN-14  GEORGIA-7   6:34 LEFT IN THE 2ND QUARTER

This is quite the tale of two quarters. Georgia’s defense has stepped up and stopped Auburn the entire quarter. And while we are on this positive trail, let’s talk about the UGA offense. In short, I love Washaun Ealey. The Dawgs were pinned back at their own 3 and Ealey in two rushes had the Dawgs at the 16. But all that is a wash when Joe Cox takes a 15 yard sack. This is what I mean by a Jekkyl and Hyde team. You can determine that from even this short paragraph.

I heard word about AJ Green’s injury. Number 8 hurt his shoulder and is out for now. If i get more news I’ll pass it along.

As it stands, Drew Butler just punted the ball 46 yards and Auburn will start on their own 42 yard line.

AUBURN-14  GEORGIA-7   13:14 left in the 2nd QUARTER

Georgia drives down the field and caps off the drive with a 50 yard touchdown pass from Joe Cox to Israel Troupe. That is definitely the jolt that the Dawgs needed to keep this game competitive

Maybe Georgia just wanted to drive towards the famous bridge between Sanford Stadium and the Tate Student center because the Dawgs have gotten 3 consecutive first downs. A run from Caleb King and two passes to AJ Green. However, Green was hurt on his second first down reception. AJ Green has been taken to the locker room, definitely bad news for the Dawgs.

AUBURN 14   GEORGIA-7   END OF THE 1ST QUARTER

Chris Todd hit WR Terrell Zachery on a 31 yard touchdown pass with 3:15 left in the 1st quarter to make the score Auburn-14   Georgia-0. It’s a good thing that it’s only one quarter, because if this was it, Uga would have to leave the stadium with his tail between his legs. Georgia’s lackluster offensive performance combined with many blown coverages by the Dawgs’ secondary have led to a domination by the Tigers from Auburn thus far. The only noise coming from this sold out Sanford Stadium is the fans donning the orange and blue.

Georgia gained a grand total of 1 yard on their second offensive drive. Mike Bobo’s offense has looked pitiful, and that’s an understatement. Georgia’s MVP of the 1st Quarter is…. *drum roll*  …Drew Butler, yeah, the punter. There is some mighty good cheesecake in this pressbox, but after this first quarter, I’ve lost my appetite.

Dawgs have the ball going into the second quarter.

1st Quarter: AUBURN-7   GEORGIA-0  5:20 left

Georgia’s offense completely sputtered on their opening drive. They didn’t not convert a first down. The Tigers got the ball back around their own 20 yard line and converted a big 3rd and 12 play. So far, the Tigers have all of the momentum in this game. However, it’s very early so far. The Dawgs will have to come up with some big plays to regain the energy in Sanford Stadium and stop the clutch throwing of Auburn’s QB Chris Todd

1st Quarter: 11:13 left–AUBURN-7   UGA-0

Georgia won the toss and deferred to the Tigers. Auburn is coming at Georgia with a two fold attack. Ben Tate is running the ball effectively and is gaining at least five yards a carry. However, Auburn’s QB Chris Todd has completed two huge passes on the opening drive. The penalty bug is biting the Dawgs again as they have two offsides penalties in the first drive.  Auburn drove down the field on the opening drive and scored with a Chris Todd touchdown pass to WR Kodi Burns.Auburn’s scoring drive took 9 plays and gained 74 yards.

PREGAME

Greetings SEC football fans! I am Dayne Young blogging to you live from Sanford Stadium where Georgia and Auburn will play a very important football game, atleast in the eyes of both fanbases.  We are just under one hour until gametime. The student section in Sanford Stadium is already filled up and the boobirds are crowing as the Auburn Tigers run out for pregame practice. The Tigers are wearing white helmets, white jerseys, and white pants. The Dawgs are following tradition and sporting the classic red helmet, red jersey, and silver britches.  This game looks to be one that is a little unknown. Both teams have looked great at times and not so great at other times.

A couple of quick storylines to watch in this game. AJ Green makes his return for the Dawgs from an injury that kept him out of last week’s homecoming game against Tennessee Tech.  Expect Auburn to try to pound the rock all game long to their tailback Ben Tate who has 1142 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns this season. Georgia’s defensive front will have to be stout if they plan to keep Tate out of the endzone.

The South’s oldest rivalry renews in just under fourty minutes. It is sure to be a thriller. I’ll be updating throughout the course of the game.  Here’s to another classic game in the history of the oldest rivalry in the South!

We are lucky to be down by only seven. The defense looked much better in the second quarter. Lets have a great second half. Go DAWGS!

  2. Mike Says:

Great Game! Maybe the best for the defense this season.
Prayers go out to Bacarri Rambo. He truly made the game saving play. We all hope and pray he will be ok.
    Really enjoyed the blog.

  3. Daniel Says:

The defense really came through today. It got ugly early, but Georgia played outstanding once the 1st quarter ended. I believe that was Georiga’s best win all year. Excellent job on the blog, man.
