Spikes Suspended for Full Game

Urban Meyer apparently reads our blog. Meyer and the Gators increased the half game suspension of Brandon Spikes to a full game. Meyer said it was in the team’s best interest that Spikes serve a full game suspension. Of course it is. You should have done it from the get go. You got all this negative attention from practically the entire nation for the idiotic half game suspension. Did you do all this for attention? Was it because you thought the refs missed a late hit on Tebow? Honestly Urban, what were you thinking when you suspended him for half a game? “Hmm, Spikes tried to rip out the eyes of a Georgia player, I hate Georgia for what they did in 07 but I gotta take some action. Yeah half a game ought to do it.”  Yeah Urban, you’re a smart one. You said it in your book that what UGA did in 07 will forever be in the hearts and minds of the gator nation and Urban Meyer. Good job on referring to yourself in third person. It’s your own book. Come on man. We get it, you hate us here. But we hate you too. That’s College Football in the South for you. Here’s hoping you leave UF for Notre Dame next year. Cause I’ll be real here, you’re a great coach. You win. But what you did this week was just plain stupid.

In other College Football news, Boise State has hired a Public Relations firm to boost its chances for a BCS bowl. Scott Peyron & Associates job is to keep Boise State on the minds of the media. Boise State is doing this because of their crazy BCS bowl game against Oklahoma in 2007. They don’t want people thinking this was a fluke. To me, this is a smart move. You want attention, you want to be in a BCS bowl every year just like every other team. Do everything you can to achieve that. But until you start scheduling harder non conference games it doesn’t matter what PR firm you hire. It could be the best in the world, but it won’t matter until you play against tougher opponents. Which it looks like they are trying to start doing. They began this year by beating a then shaky Oregon team at home. Oregon has since come on strong and is poised to win the Pac-10 this year. That win against Oregon is making Boise State look all the better. Don’t get me wrong, Boise State is a solid team. But you’ve got to play more than one tough team a year. Next year you’ve scheduled Virginia Tech. Good for you, they’re a solid team. If you beat them then people will begin to think you’re legit. You have a great quarterback and a great team. But schedule more than one tough team and win out, then people will know you’re legit.

Ealey defends Spikes

Washaun Ealey came to the defense of Brandon Spikes on Tuesday.  In case you are unaware of what happened here’s the link:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDOy-RMIpF0

On Monday, Florida coach Urban Meyer suspended Spikes for the first half of their next game against Vanderbilt. While many have criticized Meyer’s decision, Ealey says he doesn’t think Spikes should have been suspended at all.  As much as I disagree with this, I do give props for Ealey stepping up and speaking his mind. Ealey rushed for 70 yards on 17 carries and has looked good stepping in as the number one back for Georgia. The freshman from Stillmore, Georgia said his eyes were closed once Spikes jammed his fingers inside his facemask. However, it’s obvious that as soon as you see fingers coming to gouge your eyes out, you’re going to shut them. It’s just the natural thing to do. I understand where Ealey is coming from by saying the emotions got to Spikes and it was just football. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that the man was caught on tape jamming his fingers inside your facemask. He clearly had every intention to hurt you. Yes it’s football, and yes it probably happens every game at the bottom of the pile. But Spikes was caught doing it and therefore must own up to his actions, which he did when he issued an apology on Monday. He also must face the consequence for his actions, which he will when he sits out the first half on Saturday.

This suspension is a joke.  You’re the number one team in the country and you play a weak Vanderbilt team. Your top defensive player was caught attempting to gouge out the eyes of an opposing player and you suspend him for a mere half a game of football? That’s ridiculous! You make yourself look worse by doing this. Suck it up and suspend the guy for the entire game or don’t suspend him at all. The fact that Urban Meyer had to have TWO people tell him what happened is horrible, and it was only after the man saw the tape that he decided to take action on this apparent issue.  Washaun Ealey may have defended you Urban, but I know that several people (not just Bulldog fans) are very disturbed by your one half suspension.

Also, the fact that SEC commissioner Mike Slive approved this pathetic excuse for a suspension just baffles me. How much love do you have for the Gators Mike? It’s against Vandy! I mean come on. To be honest, this might actually be worse for Vanderbilt. A fresh Brandon Spikes in the second half is scary. However, I’m sure it won’t be much of a game by the second half. Which is exactly why Spikes should be suspended the entire game. So to Washaun Ealey I say this, it’s great that you spoke up but seriously, defending the enemy for purposely trying to hurt you is just dumb. The man wanted to hurt you, be upset he isn’t suspended  longer.

Thanks for reading and partaking in the experience of me losing my blogging virginity.
