2010 UGA Football Schedule Is Tentatively Set

Posted by: briandale

Yes, I know we are only one-third of the way through the 2009 campaign, but it was just announced today that pending either the Dawgs or their opponent from backing out of their agreement, the 2010 season’s schedule is finalized.

Up until today, Georgia needed to find one more out-of-conference opponent to fill up their schedule and they have apparently found themselves quite the adversary…the Idaho State Bengals! Members of the Big Sky Conference, the boys from Pocatello, Idaho have amassed an all-time record of 442-439-21 playing in Division II and Division 1-AA (since 1978).

This team is a classic patsy and for those of you without a ticket you’ll more than likely be forced to either order this game on PPV or head to your closest sports bar if you want to see this one. The game is schedule for Saturday November 6th, 2010 (the weekend after the Florida game and before the game @ Auburn), so go ahead and mark your calendars now!

Without further ado, here is how the schedule shapes up:

Stephen Garcia Tackled By A Referee And Giving Him The Business

Tuesdays, unfortunately, are usually a pretty slow day when it comes to news in the world of sports and with that in mind I suppose I can attempt to entertain some of you with some funny video clips. I came across the first one thanks to David Hale and his great sports blog and the other one is just a personal YouTube classic.

Junior Seau Run Over By Bull

No, this is not a joke, but actually quite entertaining to watch in my opinion. Former All-pro LB and Future Hall of Famer Junior Seau, who is in the midsts of shooting 10 episodes of a TV show called Sports Jobs with Junior Seau for the Versus network, had quite the encounter with a bull at a Professional Bull Riders Tour event last weekend.

TMZ, who I think literally stalks every former and current celebrity no matter how popular they are/were, reports that despite getting knocked down the former USC great only suffered minor bruising.

ASU vs. UGA Football Live Blog

Hello and thank you for logging onto WUOG. I’m Robert Inskip. I’ll be taking care of our Live Blog coverage from Sanford Stadium tonight, where #17 Georgia hosts Arizona State for a 7:00 PM kickoff. I am permitted to post three times per quarter, plus once at halftime. It looks like this game will have some very messy weather conditions, as has been the case for many games in the Southeast today.

Arizona State remains a bit of a mystery to college football fans, having played only Idaho State and Louisiana-Monroe with a bye week in-between those games. They’ve put up gaudy numbers thus far (both games were blowout wins), but this is their first test against a BCS conference team. The Sun Devils will be trying to avenge a 27-10 loss to the Dawgs in Tempe last season.

One of the biggest concerns from the Georgia side of things this year has been the struggling pass defense. The Dawgs cannot expect to keep coming up with wins if they continue to give up numbers like the ones that Stephen Garcia and Ryan Mallett posted against them over the past couple of weeks. Having said this, the weather will surely make passing more of a struggle for both teams.

When Georgia has the ball, Dawg fans will be keeping a close eye on the tailback situation. Richard Samuel has started in all three games this season, but some fumbles by Samuel and Caleb King’s return seem to have made the tailback competition a bit more interesting. Don’t forget about redshirt freshman Carlton Thomas either.

Special teams in general have gotten off to a great start for the Dawgs this year. Drew Butler has shined as the starting punter, Brandon Boykin has provided electrifying kickoff returns, and Blair Walsh has been perfect on field goals. Some big plays on special teams will likely be even more crucial under these kinds of conditions.

The rain continues to fall here at Sanford Stadium. It has been very heavy at times. A lightening warning was displayed on the big screen a bit earlier, but we are still scheduled to kickoff at 7:00. The students have been present in solid numbers for some time now in the lower level seats.

Thanks again for joining us. As usual, please feel free to post comments about the game below. Enjoy!

SEC Defenses! Yeah…

When did the SEC become an offensive conference? I’m confused. I feel like the Big 12. Only, of course, better. Without Graham Harrell, Sam Bradford and an average Colt McCoy I  haven’t heard a lot out of the that particular region. And thank God. I was tired of seeing that mustache on TV. The Big East aside, they may be the weakest conference right now. Wait, the Big 10 is still around? Never mind. (more…)

World’s Longest Basketball Shot?

This video was recently released and while the media is trying to confirm from the Guinness Book of World Records if this shot is in fact a record (and how cannot when you consider the fact that it is shot from third deck of Texas A&M’s football stadium down to the field below), assuming the video is real, it is a pretty badass shot.

However, probably something that is even more impressive is that these guys (who calls themselves “Dude Perfect”) is filming and uploading videos for a good cause. For every 100,000 views their Summer Camp edition clip receives, the guys will sponsor an impoverished child through an organization called Compassion International

The Directors Cut

Welcome to my new weekly segment, The Directors Cut, where I’ll be picking the SEC games and hashing out other thoughts about Georgia Athletics. I’ll be going against the spread for each SEC game each week, unless a team is playing a AA opponent (this week: Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina, LSU). (more…)

My (one week late) 2009 NFL Picks

After an exciting first week of the new NFL season that included Adrian Peterson’s three touchdown performance against the Cleveland Browns and Brandon Stokley’s miracle last second touchdown to beat the Cincinnati Bengals (sorry the state of Ohio it was a tough weekend on the Gridiron with the Trojans in Columbus), I realized I forgot to post my picks for the upcoming season. My picks below have not been changed after the first week despite injuries to key players on some of my playoff teams such as Donovan McNabb and Troy Polamalu. (more…)
