Georgia Tech vs. UGA Live Blog

Hello and welcome back to Foley Field. I’m Robert Inskip and I will be taking care of our Live Blog coverage for tonight’s game between the #10 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the #1 Georgia Bulldogs. Starting for the Dawgs tonight will be Chase Hawkins [LHP], a freshman from Snellville. For Tech, it will be Jed Bradley [LHP] on the mound. Bradley is a freshman from Huntsville, Alabama. The starting line ups can be seen below. First pitch is set for 7:00pm. Enjoy the game.

Bottom 9th, GA Tech 11, UGA 5: Massanari hits a solo home run over the left field fence to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. Lewis then lines out to shortstop. Chase Davidson doubles into center field. Lyle Allen comes in to pinch hit for Cone. Zach Brewster [LHP] replaces Pope on the mound. Davidson advances to third base on a wild pitch by Brewster. Allen strikes out swinging for the second out. Brewster then strikes out Adam Fuller (pinch hitting for Demperio) to end the game. The final score: GA Tech 11, Georgia 6.

Top 9th, GA Tech 9, UGA 5: Michael Palazzone [RHP] comes in to pitch for the Dawgs, replacing Harvil. Palazzone hits Murton with a pitch. Skole then hits a two-run homer over the center field wall. Leonida flies out to right field for the first out of the inning. Nichols hits a ground ball single into left field. He advances to second base on a passed ball during Winn’s at bat. Palazzone then strikes out Winn. Steve Esmonde [RHP} replaces Palazzone. Nichols moves to third on a wild pitch by Esmonde. Rowland grounds out to first base for the third out. GA Tech 11, UGA 5.

Bottom 8th, GA Tech 9, UGA 5: Demperio flies out to left field. Hyams then flies out to right field for the second out. Taylor hits a bloop single into left field. He appeared to think about stretching it into a double, but headed back to first base after going about half way to second. May then walks after working a full count. Mark Pope [RHP] replaces Davies on the mound. Poythress hits a ground ball to the shortstop Dietrich, who flips to second base for the third out of the inning. GA Tech 9, UGA 5.

Top 8th, GA Tech 9, UGA 5: Will Harvil [RHP] comes in to pitch for the Dawgs, replacing Tanner. Harvil gets Rowland to strike out looking. Dietrich then flies out to center field for the second out of the inning. Haniger hits a ground ball single just out of the reach of the third baseman May. Plagman then flies out to left field. GA Tech 9, UGA 5.

Bottom 7th, GA Tech 9, UGA 3: Hyams leads off the bottom of the 7th with a towering solo home run over the right field fence, making the score GA Tech 9, UGA 4. Taylor then singles up the middle. Patrick Long [RHP], replaces Bradley on the mound for Tech. May singles into right field on a hit-and-run. Taylor, who had to slow down to make sure the ball was not caught, stops at third base. Poythress then walks on four piches to load the bases with no outs. Massanari hits a single into left field, bringing home Taylor. The ball was just out of Nichol’s reach, as it landed behind him and rolled to the wall. After reaching a full count, Lewis flies out to second base. Jake Davies [LHP] comes in to pitch, replacing Long. Davies gets both Davidson and Cone to strike out swinging to end the inning, as the Dawgs leave the bases loaded. GA Tech 9, UGA 5.

Top 7th, GA Tech 9, UGA 3: Cecil Tanner [RHP] comes in to pitch, replacing Earls. Skole works a walk for the Jackets. A wild pitch by Tanner lets Skole move up to second base. Leonida then strikes out swinging, as do Nichols and Winn. GA Tech 9, UGA 3.

Bottom 6th, GA Tech 9, UGA 2: We’ve received word that tonight’s attendance is 4,077, the sixth largest crowd in Foley Field history. Lewis hits a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 6th for the Dawgs, cutting the lead to 9-3. Davidson then strikes out swinging. Cone gets on base with a single up the middle. Cone is thrown out trying to steal second base. GA Tech 9, UGA 3.

Top 6th, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: Justin Earls [LHP] replaces Walters on the mound for the Dawgs. Rowland walks to start off the inning. Dietrich then strikes out swinging as Rowland steals second base. Haniger singles into shallow left, as the shortstop Hyams doesn’t have time to make the throw. Rowland stops at third base. Plagman singles into left field to bring home Rowland, making the score GA Tech 9, UGA 2. Haniger stops at second base. Earls then gets Murton to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to retire the side. GA Tech 9, UGA 2.

Bottom 5th, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: May lines out to center field. Bradley gets Poythress to ground out to third base for the second out. Massanari strikes out swinging to end the inning. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Top 5th, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: Murton grounds out to shortstop, as Hyams spins and makes the throw from shallow center field. Skole reaches base on an error by Demperio (2B), who mishandles the ground ball. Leonida hits a fly ball into left field. Taylor makes the catch against the wall, perhaps saving a home run. Thomas Nichols, in the game for House, works a walk. Walters’s pitch to Winn gets by Massanari and both runners advance. With runners at second and third base, Winn grounds out to Demperio. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Bottom 4th, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: Bradley gets Cone to ground out to first base. Demperio grounds out to third base for the second out. Hyams becomes a two out base runner with a single into left field. Johnathan Taylor, who is in the game for Verdin, grounds out to third base for the final out of the inning. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Top 4th, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: Jeff Walters [RHP], comes in to pitch for the Dawgs, replacing Leaver. Dietrich flies out to center field for the first out. Walters then gets Haniger to ground out to shortstop. Plagman grounds out to second base for the third out. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Bottom 3rd, GA Tech 8, UGA 2: Massanari flies out to center field. Lewis then strikes out swinging for the second out. Davidson hits a ground ball to first baseman Plagman and is tagged out to end the inning. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Top 3rd, GA Tech 5, UGA 2: Jason Leaver [LHP] replaces Hawkins on the mound. Murton singles into left field to start things off for Tech. Leaver then hits Skole with a pitch. Leonida hits a three-run homer over the left field fence to make the score GA Tech 8, UGA 2. House reaches base with an infield single. Winn flies out to right field for the first out of the inning. Rowland lines out to Poythress, who tags first base to complete an unassisted double play. That ends the Top of the 3rd. GA Tech 8, UGA 2.

Bottom 2nd, GA Tech 5, UGA 0: Cone works a full count and then walks. Demperio then hits a two-run homer over the left field fence, making the score GA Tech 5, UGA 2. Hyams pops up to second base for the first out. Bradley then strikes out Verdin. May reaches base with an infield single after the ball bounces off of Bradley’s glove. Poythress grounds out to third base to end the inning. GA Tech 5, UGA 2.

Top 2nd, GA Tech 2, UGA 0: Leonida grounds out to third base to start off the inning. House then hits an infield single as Hyams’s throw to first is not in time. Hawkins then walks Winn. Pitching Coach Brady Wiederhold comes out for a meeting on the mound. Rowland then hits a triple down the right field line, bringing in two runs to make the score GA Tech 4, UGA 0. Dietrich then flys out to right field, as Rowland tags up and scores on the play. Haniger hits a double into right field. Plagham then grounds out to Hawkins for the third out. GA Tech 5, UGA 0.

Bottom 1st, GA Tech 2, UGA 0: Verdin strikes out swinging to start the bottom of the first. May hits a single into center field to become the Dawgs’ first base runner. Bradley then walks Poythress. Massanari strikes out swinging for the second out. After reaching  a full count against Lewis, Bradley throws ball four to load the bases. Davidson then hits a ground ball to Bradley, who flips to first base to end the inning. GA Tech 2, UGA 0.

Top 1st, GA Tech 0, UGA 0: The lead off man Rowland pops up to first base for the first out of the game. After reaching a 3-0 count, the county becomes full for Dietrich. He then singles up the middle to become the first base runner of the night. Haniger then hits a two-run homer over the center field fence to give Tech a 2-0 lead. Plagman grounds out to third base for the second out of the inning. Murton reaches base with a single between shortstop and thrid base. Hawkins then gets Skole to fly out to center field to retire the side. GA Tech 2, UGA 0.
