Gwen O’Looney Mayoral Benefit
Talent was present at New Earth Music Hall on the evening of Saturday October 22nd. The talent ranged from the described collective supergroup by the name of SUPERCLUSTER, to a more youthful, pop rock sounding Athens-based band named The Caste. To much surprise, the two bands were united in their intentions as the show they played served as a benefit concert for Athens Mayoral Candidate Gwen O’Looney.
SUPERCLUSTER, known for their great mesh of different sounds, performed and delivered well in their usual manner. The varying use of different instruments surely was heard during their performance. The real treat of the evening however (besides the mini-speeches carried by Candidate O’Lonney in between the sets) was the other band. The youthful, indie, pop rock sounding band called The Caste. Influenced by musicians that include Buddy Holly, The Clash, and Velvet Underground, The Caste surely displayed this in the guitar sounds they play. Meshing their influences with their own sound, this band has surely created a unique sound that will remain specific to their name. One of the foremost contributing factors in this sound comes from their drummer Jeffrey Bowman, whose skills on the drums surely had to have grabbed the attention of the audience. In similar ways that Atlanta band The Less is making their mark with a special unique sound, The Caste too are making a name for themselves in this music-oriented town. It will be no surprise when commercial success finds this them.
