The Groundhog must’ve seen its shadow simply because it was Spring-like vibes coming from tonight’s live performance courtesy of The Humms. The four-man group brought out nothing but the blues but there was nothing sad about this hour-long set. If you dig, they’ll be performing at a house show in ATL (near Decatur), and if you can’t make it to that, they’ll be performing as part of a festival at Little Kings in the very near future. And of course, you can track their latest happenings here and here.

reptar-2

Reptar is back at their old stomping grounds of WUOG tonight!! This funky band’s career has quickly taken off in the last year, getting signed to Vagrant Records and having the opportunity to tour the U.S. with Foster The People. The infectious energy this band creates guarantees chaos at every show! Crowd surfing, dancing on amps, and throwing tamborines in to the crowd are just a few of the shenanigans that ensued. If ever you get the opportunity to see these guys live, DO IT.

Check out their music here, or follow their blog here!

King Richard’s Sunday Best 01-12-12

Jan 12 2012 9:16 pm

“King Richard’s Sunday Best is not a very good band. Sure, when Atlanta-based musicians Evan Tyor and Luke McGinnis teamed up to form this ludicrously christened duo, they were told by their girlfriends and numerous family members that they were excellent. The phrases “that sounds nice”, and “wonderful potential!” were even thrown around. In reality, their music is full of tacky, confusing chord progressions, and annoyingly poetic lyrics. Add cellist Simon Reiter to the mix, and it becomes even worse. I mean seriously, who likes the cello? Ok, so, it is rather interesting to see 9 or so instruments being played by 4 people… And yes, they play covers of your favorite songs, with beautiful harmonies and original instrumentation. Fine, they also write really catchy songs. But if you hear King Richard’s Sunday Best and consider it good music, you need to reconsider your taste. You probably also like The Beatles. Get a life.” – from their facebook. Check it out.

The above opinion is not the opinion of WUOG. We like this band (we also probably like The Beatles).

Holidays are over and school is officially back in session. So that means we’re back on the air for the new year! And did you know that WUOG turns 40 this year? Well now you know and what better way to start the year-long celebration by having one of our own come through to kick off the first LITL of 2012. None other than Allison Weiss kicked things off for the new year featuring new music from her upcoming album as well as a couple of oldies but goodies, BUT she didn’t come alone. The Brooklyn, NY tandem of Joanna and Maia better known as Mitten also graced the WUOG lobby for the first time ever with a stripped down acoustic version of what they normally do on that synthetic pop tip. BUT both Allison and Mitten will be performing TONIGHT at Go Bar with Space Ghost in case you can’t get enough of what you heard. And for the out of town folks, they will be coming to a city near you on their Together at Last Tour throughout the month of January. And of course, you can check out Allison and Mitten’s sites and follow them (@allisonweiss and @mynameismitten) for their latest escapades. Enjoy the first live aural sustenance of 2012 ladies and gents cause we got plenty more where that came from!!

A bonus Live in the Lobby for you just in time for the holidays and even better it’s two for the price of one. On one side, you have the old-English poetically feline infused stylings of Fae Grimalkin and on the other, you have the Canada-NY tandem of Sarah Ayton and Matt Gordon collectively known as Well Worn taking their previous solo projects and turning it into aurally comfortable well-worn-type living. Check out both talented duos as they showcase their own sets and also interviewing each other which you rarely get to hear in this day and age and then some. Two worlds coming together with the same purpose of giving the listeners good music as well as knowing more about each other’s passion for the music.
