We’re keeping the Pre-Athfest on WUOG Festivities going with an acoustic performance from the lovely Lera Lynn accompanied by Ben Lewis. If you’re diggin their performance (which I’m pretty sure you are), they’ll be performing all Athfest weekend long kicking off with the Flagpole Athens Music Awards on THURS. JUNE 23RD at Morton Theatre, FRI. JUNE 24TH @ 6:30PM on the MAINSTAGE, and SAT. JUNE 25TH @ LITTLE KINGS for the SLUSH FUND ATHFEST PARTY as well as being a part of the Classic City American Music Festival on JULY 3RD. You can check out more dates for performances, get L. Lynn swagg and music over at her website. In the meantime, enjoy the acoustic sustenance.
It is safe to say that WUOG 90.5FM is officially back on the air for the summer. And with the WU back, that also means LIVE MUSIC to put all up in your earhole. The first LiTL of the summer features no other than the five-piece homegrown bluegrass outfit The Packway Handle Band. If you dig the tight vocal harmonies and the instrumental dynamics, be sure to check them out like you’ve never heard them before at ATHFFEST on FRIDAY JUNE 24TH @ New Earth Music Hall teaming up with PowerKompany, The District Attorney’s and The Interns and SUNDAY JULY 3RD as part of The Classic City American Music Festival. And of course they have their website if you are feening for more Packway goodness.
Folksey/bluesy/country tunes about lost love and progressive politics all over some sweet banjo and fiddle action. Hmmm…sounds like this week’s LITL featuring Athens own Pholksinger Josh and the Andrew Small Band. If you’re feeling it be sure to check them out FRIDAY APRIL 1ST at Six Flags, but if rollercoasters isn’t really your thrillin-loop-de-loop cup of tea, they’ll be at the Go Bar on APRIL 16TH and Rye Bar on APRIL 19TH. And of course, you can get the latest happenings with them right here.
After a week off for Spring Break ‘11, the live aural sustenance continues with the bluesy-jazz stylings of Blair Crimmins and the Hookers. Puts you in the mind of those old school black and white western films doesn’t it? Or some authentically vintage blues straight from that Georgia Red Clay right? Either way, check them out, and if you dig, they’ll be performing along with Betsy Frank at Farn 255 on MARCH 24TH. But if you can’t wait until then, check them out right here.
This go ’round, we had the acoustic-electric Athens-by-way-of-Massachusetts tandem of Jesse & Sean better known as Grey Milk come through and supply the masses listening all over the Classic City and beyond with some live, organic aural sustenance like we do on the regular. But do you want more? Of course you do, so feel free to check them out here.
This week, we get the mini-orchestral/island-esque stylings of Atlanta band Little Tybee! If you dig the live aural sustenance and are thirsting for more, they will be performing at Caledonia Lounge on April 1st with Venice is Sinking, but if you can’t wait until then, check them out here.
This week, we got the bluesy aural excellence of ATL singer/songwriter and UGA student, Connor Pledger. If you’re a fan of Blue’s Traveler, John Mayer, or Dave Matthews, or just some really good feel good music, check him out down below. Want more? Check him out here.
A rare but special treat this week as we had TWO LITL performances in one night. First off, we had the acoustic and jazzy tandem of Eric and KyKy (who are fans of KoRn) making their official WUOG debut. If you dig these sounds, be sure to check out the interview as well as more of their music here.
Next up, Bobby Be Good, comes through with their second WUOG appearance this semester, but they are just as awesome this go ’round as they were back in January during the Haiti Benefit Show we had here. So, be sure to check them out too.
