The Would Be Farmers was formed by Brian Yetter in Athens, GA. Inspired by performing with Turkish and Greek musicians in the world music groups Kirmani and Tesserae, and after hearing the works of Ali Farke Toure and other African masters,Brian sought to form a band with more af a tribal, old world folk appeal using acoustic instrumentation and hand drums. Along came Aaron Phillips-veteran to the local music scene, having played with such groups as Jack Logan and the Liquor Cabinet, Redneck Greece Deluxe, The Wide Receivers and David Barbe. Brian had finally found a drummer who was willing to get out from behind the kit and try something new. Aaron introduced fellow scene veteran Jason Gonzalez (The Possibilities, Nutria) to the mix. Gonzalez fills out the Farmers’ sound with Wurlitzer Electric Piano and Hammond organ. Coming from different musical worlds, these dedicated musicians form the Would Be Farmers- together traveling down a new path of musical expression.
