Two for one special for this post. First off, we finished up last week with a performance from Rebecca Jones a.k.a. Middle Child and kicked off this week with an aural spectrum courtesy of Hello Ocho. You know how you play phone tag with someone? They call you and you call them right back but don’t pick up, and vice versa? Yeah, that’s kinda what happened with us and Powerkompany, but we FINALLY made it happen this week and what made it even better, they performed some new and exclusive songs from their upcoming album, so it’s definitely all good. If you want more, they will be performing at the 40 Watt this coming Friday, but if THAT doesn’t satisfy your P.K. appetite, check out their latest happenings here. Though the name is Boycycle, there is a woman heading the band, which is kinda false advertising, but no matter because the music is good. Repping the Classic City, the tandem of Ashley, Andre, Austin, and Bryson bring their live aural goodness to the WU studio for this week’s Live in the Lobby. If you want more Boycycle in your system, you may have to wait a little bit as they are currently on a semi-hiatus after performing all summer long in promotion of their debut EP The Steady, Confident Touch of a Man in His Prime which you can stream here. Coming straight from the ATL, we got the boys of Absence of Ocean swinging through the Lobby this week on The WU’s official 40th birthday. The name of the band is a bit misleading though because their music does put you in the vibe of that you’re chillaxin on the ocean. Don’t believe us? Then, by all means listen for yourself and if you can’t get enough of A.o.O., they will be performing on Thursday, October 25th at The Masquerade, and of course you can check them out here for the latest happenings. Before JK and the Lost Boys do their thing at the 40 Watt kicking off a mini-tour that stretches from ATH to the Carolinas (even Richard Worley’s homebase) and back to their native ATL, they came by the WU for an afternoon edition of LITL as well as an interview that touched on everything from who would win in a General Mills vs. Kellogg mascots in a clash of cereal titans to Chris Hansen? Yeah it went there, but all the more to check it out as well as check them out in a city near you along with Damion Suomi & the Minor Prophets or if you can’t make it out, they do have a nice little website so you can catch the latest JKTLB madness. Though the LITLs have been a bit sporadic thus far this summer, they have been quality ones nonetheless. This week, we had “Indie Pop’s Best Kept Secret” according to the Washington Post in the form of Monahan come through and perform songs about thyroid medication and have conversations about gluten-free pizza from Domino’s and N.O. Xplode (which really does make your Heart explode) and then some. If you dig it, be sure to check them out next week during ATHFest as they will be performing at Go Bar on that Saturday June 22nd as well as them performing with other acts (i.e. Young Benjamin, Easter Island, pacificUV, Electrophoria, Ruby Kendrick, The Viking Progress just to name a few) all ATHFest weekend. True story.

For the first official LITL of the summer, we had the pleasure of having Donnie’s distant yet soulful 3rd cousin on his momma’s side, Lefty Hathaway come through a 5 song set in promotion of he and his bandmates debut full-length album Shacks which is out now on iTunes and their album release show going down WEDNESDAY MAY 30TH at The Melting Point.
