After an extended hiberation we’re stretching our limbs and getting back into the swing of things. So at long last WUOG is back on air! And we’ve really missed you. Hopefully you caught some of our winter break shenanigans such as the All Girls Sleepover, Townie Takeover, and countless 24 marathon shifts. What a great note to start out the year on! Hey listeners! I know we are all bummed it’s “break radio” sans regular programming, but you can get your fill of WUOG by listening to some old–yet always fresh–episodes of our specialty shows!

Here are some highlights from 2010 to keep you going this week!

1. Wassoulu Music from Mali on 2009’s Best Specialty Show Miliki Soundsystem (formerly known as Afrika).
2. One of a series of thematic shows, this one featuring game music on Beasts from the East, the revived J-Pop show and one of 2010’s Best Specialty Show winners.
3. The Lemonheads, The Breeders, & John Zorn on roots of punk and experimental show Blank Generation, the other winner of the 2010 Best Specialty Show award.
4. Cop Dope performs and guest deejays on the punk show Boiling Point.
5. Dance party extreme episode on a new show, a cross-genre survey of Scandinavian, Norwegian music show called Pining for the Fjords.
6. A banana-and-ukelele-filled edition of Jitters & Rags.
7. Some of the very best in new and contemporary folk and psych-folk, featuring Animal Collective and Akron/Family, to name a few, on Friendly Folk.
8. A chilling selection of Russian chamber music on the baroque show Vespers.
