Not a big truck

The digital media staff weblog about the internet, memes and gadgetry.

yo dawg, I herd you like kids, so we put a kid in your kid so she can have kids while she’s a kid.

I’m sure everyone has read by now about the thirteen year old who looks like he’s eight who allegedly impregnated a fifteen year old alien.

Scary looking as the pictures of the three of them are, it was initially hard to see what the big deal was here when I remember having heard stories of fifth graders having kids and not making the news.

But it’s gotten so much better.

According to  the News Of The World, it has been uncovered that  “Ms. Steadman was sleeping with as many as eight teenage boys around the time the baby was conceived on the Old Town estate in Eastbourne, Sussex.” A family friend has also revealed that Alfie “was a victim of a scam devised by his girlfriend’s mother to cash in on publicity surrounding the young parents” (it’s true, though; the story is much more fun story this way, if only for the pictures). Since then, two more boys have claimed to have fathered the infant, all under the legal age of consent. They, unlike the famous Alfie who thankfully has agreed to a paternity test, actually look as though they might have actually hit puberty and been physically able to bare seed. For pictures of the other boys and some choice memes*, keep reading below the break.

An Alternative to the Ladder Theory

Feb 06 2009 8:00am

A couple of weeks ago, Girls Night In did a show on the “ladder theory,” which is in short a method of describing the interaction and differences between men and women.

Interesting and insightful as that may be, we had probably best admit that Mario’s explanation of relationships is much more likely to get the point across to your average video game-loving male.

Illustrated explanation of why ladder/friend zone jumping isn’t recommended here.

Drinking Culture

The Merry Drinker by Frans Hals.

Wikipedia provides articles on everything from the UGA literary societies to Truthiness. But, this article on “Drinking Culture” stands out.

Generally, people drink for one or more of six reasons — to quench thirst, to get drunk, to enjoy a social occasion (social drinking), to enjoy the taste of an alcoholic beverage, to participate in a religious or traditional ceremony or custom, or because they are alcoholics.

Hipster BINGO

Posted by: Nicki
Feb 04 2009 12:00pm

I’m not sure how many of us at WUOG aim to be hipsters, but as a hole, we seem to be pretty good at it. Hipster bingo is ideal for passing the time before shows; I’m thinking all you’d have to do to get the bottom row is step outside the 40 Watt (inside would obviously work too, but then there’s so much less smoking of the Parliaments). In fact, going to most any indie show would probably result in an immediate pwnage of the entire board, but I might just make it my goal to see how many bingos I can get on a daily basis. If you spend any time hanging around the station, this should be even easier than Sarah Palin bingo with all her “mavericks” and “Joe Six Packs.”

But don’t be offended, hipsters- how else are we going to get an American Apparel and for good bands to keep coming to Athens?

You Look Nice Today

The internet is sometimes filled with wonderful gems of humor and wonderment. One of these gems is You Look Nice Today: A Journal of Emotional Hygiene. Mostly, It’s just 3 guys talking about nothing on Skype. At the same time, it’s mostly hilarious and filled with very vague pop culture references from the 1920’s and/or 1930’s.

They’ve had a dozen or so episodes so far including a wonderful series with guest stars John Hodgman and Jonathan Coulton. Go give them a listen at YouLookNiceToday.com.

A video example of their humorous styling:
