Obama’s democracy 2.0

Posted by: wuog
Feb 09 2009 12:00pm

The Politico headline is a little harsh, but Obama did promise that all bills would be online 5 days before they are signed so the American people can review them.

This apparently does not apply to emergency bills. Also, the system isn’t set up yet.

“Currently we are working through implementation procedures and some initial issues with the congressional calendar,” the statement read. “In the meantime, we will continue to post legislation on our website for comment as it moves through Congress over the next few weeks.” The White House posted a link on its website Sunday to the Senate bill.

It looks like another trillion is going to get printed, packed and shipped without the approval of the people.

MusicBox: Mapping and visualizing music collections

MusicBox creates a map of musical attributes. A user is able to view their array of music through different qualities such as tempo, timbre and loudness. Unfortunately, this software will not be available any time soon.

The programmer, Anita Lillie, is an MIT graduate who recently started a new job at Nokia. Nokia’s current media offerings include Simulcast – some sort of simulated fishing apparatus, I’m assuming – and Nokia Music, which doesn’t support Firefox.

Lillie will not be releasing the software or code because MIT holds the intellectual property rights.

Girl from Too much candy?

Posted by: wuog
Jan 04 2009 3:31am

Andrew posted the “Too much candy” girl a couple of days ago. She reminded me of another video I had seen before, wonder if it’s the same girl.

Guess she did eat too much candy.

Last night I was in Madison Square Garden watching My Morning Jacket. During intermission, a clip from The Great Dictator played on the huge screens. This is that clip.

Epic Zune Fail

Posted by: wuog
Dec 31 2008 11:50am

It would seem every 30gb Zune, Microsoft’s iPod competitor, has failed at the exact same time.

At approximately 12:00 midnight Pacific Standard Time, on December 30th, 2008, first generation Zune 30’s were reported to have rebooted and frozen during the boot process. A response from Microsoft about this possible time bomb is pending.

College on the Record has dubbed the event 2k9, Entertainment Weekly and TechRadar have dubbed it Y2K9, Gizmodo has dubbed it Y2K9 and Z2K9.

As of 11:00 AM (EST) A comment has been posted the the front page of the support site stating that Microsoft is aware of the issue. Phone support reps have stated that the issues should be addressed within 24 hours.

From Wikipedia, Accessed Wednesday, December 31st, 2009 at 11:40am

The device currently sells for $200, originally selling for $250. Sadly, Zune owners will not be able to listen to their New Years jams.

Txt msgs = 100% profit

Dec 29 2008 4:28pm

Many Americans think 5 cents a text message would be a bargain. Most pay 10, 15 or even 20 cents per txt without plan or on overages. It turns out the cost for these messages are next to zero.

The channel the messages are sent over is used to initiate a call. 160 characters does not exceed the amount of data used to start the call. The channel is left open regardless.

An alternative Christmas Message

Keeping with WUOG’s mission to be an alternative media outlet, I bring you President Ahmadinejad’s Christmas address. For those unaware, Ahmadinejad is the controversial leader of Iran’s secular government. Also, Muslims recognize Jesus as an important prophet.
