Deceiver is the third album from Brooklyn based shoegaze and dream pop outfit, DIIV. While showcasing a more melancholy and somber atmosphere than their previous releases, Deceiver is still warm and expressive. Tracks such as “Horsehead” and “Taker” gradually build from a somber melody into a cacophony of crunchy, menacing riffs. “Blankenship” and “Skin” game display catchy choruses but not without fuzzy, layered sonic textures. On Deceiver, DIIV has shown they’re capable of crafting a unique and memorable shoegaze sound.
