FAQ

WUOG Frequently Asked Questions

Who the hell are you guys, anyway?
Long story short, WUOG provides the University of Georgia and the surrounding community an outlet that educates and entertains UGA student volunteers and listeners through music, news, public affairs, and sports. We are a student-run, all-volunteer, non-commercial, 26,000-watt radio powerhouse located in the heart of Athens, Georgia. Read all about us on our about page.

What's this I hear about a "music philosophy"?
WUOG's music philosophy defines what we do and do not play over our airwaves. In a nutshell, our music philosophy is designed to support musicians and genres that are getting little recognition elsewhere. For some further reading, consult the music philosophy page.

How can I join WUOG's staff?
Easy! Our only requirement is that you must be a fees-paying University of Georgia student. No experience is required to work for the station; we will train you. We have a number of wonderful departments where you can apply your talents, whether you're interested in digital music, equipment and sound engineering, being a news or sports anchor, reviewing new music, or promoting the station. WUOG holds an open meeting at the beginning of each semester, which is always publicized on our homepage and around campus. If you're interested in joining our staff mid-year, email our Training Director, who will get in touch with you ASAP!

How can I become a DJ?
Once you've worked at the station for at least one full semester, you can then apply for DJ training. After your department head approves the transfer, you begin the semester long DJ training class. Our About page has more info about the DJ training process.

How can I become an executive board member?
When you've worked at the station for at least a semester, you'll be eligible to apply for most exec board positions. Interviews are usually held in November of each year, and exec terms run from January-January.

Will you air our Public Service Announcement (PSA)?
We're very interested in running PSAs for nonprofit organizations around UGA, Athens, and the U.S. All you have to do is fill out our online PSA request form and we will get back with you ASAP. If your PSA is for a specific event, please give us at least two weeks' advance notice!

How do I get my music on the air?
The first step is mailing us your CD--check out our submission guidelines to get started.

We're a local band -- how do we get on Live in the Lobby?
Check out our Live in the Lobby Info Sheet and get in touch with our Local Music Director.

What was the song I heard at 3:17am on May 2, 2006?
Good question. I have no idea, but you can start by looking at our weekly schedule and finding the show that corresponds to the time you were listening. And if all else fails, you can e-mail our Programming Director.

How do I advertise on your station?
As a noncommercial station, WUOG does not play advertisements. However, we do accept underwriting contracts from local Athens businesses.

My question isn't answered here. How do I get in touch with you?
